The Saxons
The Saxons first appear in the Geographia
of Claudius Ptolemaeus, dated c 150CE. He places them on the neck of the 'Cimbric
Peninsula' - the modern Danish peninsula, in the region of Schleswig-Holstein.
Writing c. 369CE, Eutropius seems to be the next to mention them in ix.21,
in the seas around Belgica and Armorica at the time of Carausius'
appointment as commander of the channel fleet in the mid 280s.
