King Arthur in Hollywood

Quest For Camelot (1998) VHS   DVD

A slightly awkward and occasionally dark animated feature, this Warner Brothers attempt to do Disney still shines in its attempt to update the Arthurian legend, complete with heroine and pop culture. This is the tale of Kayley (Jessalyn Gilsig) whose father, a Knight of the Round Table, is killed by Sir Ruber (Gary Oldman), an evil knight that steals Excalibur and threatens to seize King Arthur's Camelot. Kayley enlists the blind, reclusive knight Garrett (Cary Elwes) and a two-headed dragon ("we're the reason cousins shouldn't marry") voiced by Eric Idle and Don Rickles to brave the Enchanted Forest and retrieve the magic sword.  The soundtrack songs performed by LeeAnn Rimes and Celine Dion bring out the highlights and wonder even in the darkness of Kayley's father's death and her struggles to retrieve Excalibur.
